As expectant mothers worry about giving birth during the COVID-19, South Shore Health has taken extra precautions to keep moms, babies, and staff safe.

South Shore Health's Kim Dever, MD introduced the City Line audience to South Shore Health’s Team Birth Project, a first-of-its-kind program aimed at improving communication with patients and their families throughout pregnancy and during the birthing process to foster safe outcomes for women.

One year after being chosen as the pilot site for a one-of-its-kind study, South Shore Hospital, part of South Shore Health, has seen a nearly 4-percent decrease in its first time cesarean section rate while continuing to improve communication, patient experience and outcomes during childbirth.

Due to the effects of COVID-19, South Shore Health will temporarily close or readjust hours at South Shore Medical Center and other ambulatory care locations.

The Weymouth hospital is one of four in Massachusetts to earn the competitive award.
