According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, every year about 700 women die in the U.S. from pregnancy and childbirth complications. This weekend, WCVB-TV's CityLine examined the root causes of maternal deaths, delivery complications and why women of color are most at risk.

South Shore Health's Kim Dever, MD introduced the City Line audience to South Shore Health’s Team Birth Project, a first-of-its-kind program aimed at improving communication with patients and their families throughout pregnancy and during the birthing process to foster safe outcomes for women.
