Private, Stylish New Space Opens for Wig Services and Sales

South Shore Health has announced the return of wig services, which was once offered by The Boutique during its tenure in the Dana Farber/Brigham & Women Cancer Center in affiliation with South Shore Health. Wig services will now have a permanent home within the Gift Shop, located inside the McKim entrance to South Shore Hospital. For medical or non-medical reasons, from children to adults - all are welcome to come find and be fitted for the perfect wig.

“We are excited to be offering this important service again,” said Sue Noyes, manager of the Gift Shop.

“We have built a safe and private space just for wig consultations and sales. We want our clients to feel comfortable in this private setting.”

Wig services will be run by Rita Bower, who has worked with South Shore Health for many years. As a licensed cosmetologist, Bower has years of experience in community salons selling and styling wigs. “This is a unique service that we are able to provide,” explained Bower. “Usually when you’re in the market for a wig, these services are only available at a hair salon, which lacks privacy.  We are offering a private, comfortable, special space here at the Gift Shop, and within that space, our only focus is customizing wigs to fit you and your style.”

“It’s wonderful to be able to offer this service again to our patients,” said Jennifer Croes, Executive Director of the Dana-Farber/Brigham and Women's Cancer Center in clinical affiliation with South Shore Hospital. “We are pleased to have this service available right across the street from the cancer center. I know that wig services will help improve the confidence of our patients fighting cancer along with people in our community battling other medical issues.”

Bower will make sure that every patient and client is pleased before they walk out of the store. “I always have the client try the wig on before leaving our shop,” said Bower. “I want to ensure that the wig is exactly what the client is looking for and looks as natural as possible.”

Wig services will be open during the same hours as the Gift Shop, with walk-ins and appointments available Monday through Friday and by appointment only on Saturdays. Multiple payment methods are accepted, and financial assistance is available on a need-basis.
