In another stride towards advancing patient care, South Shore Health is delighted to announce the generous donation of a cutting-edge Faxitron machine to its Pathology Lab.

The Faxitron is a compact imaging device that allows our pathologists to quickly pinpoint areas of concern within biopsy specimens, enhancing the precision and efficiency of our cancer diagnostics.

This valuable donation was made possible by the combined support of The Friends of South Shore Health and a portion of Team South Shore Health’s 2023 Boston Marathon proceeds.

“Our community plays a vital role in supporting the health system’s medical capabilities,” explains Leon Merian, Vice President of The Friends. “We all know someone affected by cancer, and we all benefit by empowering pathologists to navigate cancer biopsy specimens with unparalleled accuracy.”

Expressing gratitude for this impactful contribution, Executive Director of The Cancer Center Jen Croes says, “This new addition to our lab is poised to make a significant difference for patients awaiting potential cancer diagnoses and those already grappling with the challenges of such a diagnosis.”

As South Shore Health continues to evolve its diagnostic capabilities, the donation of the Faxitron serves as a reminder of our community's unwavering commitment to advancing healthcare locally, along with the dedication of our colleagues to improving the lives of individuals facing the complexities of cancer.
