Changes to Check-In at SSMC

As concern about COVID-19 continues to grow, South Shore Medical Center has changed our procedures in order to keep our patients and staff safe.

As of Monday, March 16:

We are temporarily suspending walk-in urgent care in Norwell. All patients should call ahead before coming in for care: 781-878-5200.

Every patient will be screened when entering our Norwell location. Nurses will triage all patients at the door for influenza-like illness or respiratory infections. Patients with respiratory symptoms will wait and be seen in a specific area to minimize the risk to other patients.

All SSMC patients with respiratory symptoms will be seen in Norwell. Our patients who regularly get care in Quincy or Kingston will be scheduled in Norwell if they have symptoms, such as:

  • Fever
  • Shortness of breath
  • Tightness in the chest
  • Cough

All patients will be put in rooms as soon as possible. We are making every effort to get non-respiratory patients in rooms as quickly as possible to decrease waiting time in waiting areas.

Patients have the option to reschedule non-urgent appointments. Please contact your care team if you would like to reschedule a non-urgent appointment, such as a yearly physical.

We are experiencing high call volume. Our phone lines are especially busy, and these calls are taking longer as our team screens patients and answers patient questions. We appreciate your patience.

Thank you for your understanding as this situation continues to evolve. We are working around the clock to ensure we’re keeping our patients and staff safe.
