Minimally invasive surgery (MIS) is any procedure considered less invasive than open (traditional) surgery and results in minimal scarring, less pain, and faster healing. MIS options at South Shore Health include laparoscopic surgery (laparoscopy) and robotic-assisted surgery.

Laparoscopic surgery is video-assisted surgery where the camera illuminates the surgical field within the body. Benefits include smaller incisions, faster recoveries, lower costs, and often negates the need for an overnight hospital stay.
