Cardiac Calcium Scoring Scan Now Available at South Shore Health
Understanding your risk for heart disease can help you and your healthcare provider make informed decisions about your heart health.
With that in mind, South Shore Health is proud to now offer Cardiac Calcium Scoring Scans, a quick, non-invasive imaging test that can help assess your risk for cardiovascular disease.
A cardiac calcium score, also known as a coronary artery calcium (CAC) score, uses a specialized CT scan to detect and measure calcium deposits in the arteries that supply blood to the heart.
The presence and amount of calcium can provide your healthcare provider with additional information about your risk for coronary artery disease and help guide conversations about prevention and treatment.
Your doctor may recommend a cardiac calcium scoring scan based on your individual health history and cardiovascular risk factors, particularly when additional information could help determine your risk and inform next steps.
