A day bright with sunshine, smiles, and remembrance helped set the pace and shatter previous fundraising records for South Shore Health’s annual Walk for Hospice, held Saturday, June 11.

More than 700 people registered for the event at Weymouth High School to raise a record-breaking $230,000 - in support of Hospice of the South Shore’s mission.

All funds raised continue to provide end-of-life care and bereavement services to more than 580 patients and their families on the South Shore - regardless of their ability to pay.

The inspirational morning, emceed by Peter Eliopoulos from WCVB-TV, was filled with live entertainment, including music, arts and crafts, local ambulance, fire and other various “touch-a-trucks” and several other games and activities for families.

Participants chose to walk a 1.5 mile course around South Shore Hospital and its surrounding neighborhoods or a half-mile option at Weymouth High School.

“We would like to thank all those we came out in support of this great event, including walkers, donors and all our volunteers,” said Gabrielle Mahoney, FNP, Director of Hospice, Palliative and Supportive Care at South Shore Health. “Every year we look forward to reconnecting with families from years past and to welcoming those who are new to the Walk! It’s a wonderful day filled with many special memories.”

South Shore Health Foundation would like to thank Abington Ale House: this year’s Hospice Hero event sponsor! As a Hospice Hero, Abington Ale House is making an incredible impact on hospice care in our community. Located on Rt. 18, the Abington Ale House has delicious food and incredible service.
