Each month, South Shore Health gives the Colleague Spotlight Award to a colleague who demonstrates exemplary behaviors, actions, and/or work practices that reflect the values of South Shore Health.

We're proud to celebrate Kyla Madden, RN, BSN, OCN, CMSRN as our Colleague Spotlight Award recipient for March!

Kyla is a nurse on Emerson 6 at South Shore Hospital.

Kyla was nominated by Peter Casella, MSN, BS, RN, CCRN, Nurse Manager on Emerson 6.

"I recommended Kyla because of her positive presence [and] even-keeled leadership on the unit," he said. "Any situation: rapid response, chemotherapy, busy day on the unit, stressful day, or end-of-life care."

"Kyla is such a great support for peers, patients," Peter continued. "She really is a great all-around leader."

Kyla has taken an active role in a number of different aspects of patient care on Emerson 6. She's a part of the unit's Pain Committee, Skin Team, and also serves as a charge nurse.

She has also demonstrated a commitment to professional growth, recently attending an oncology conference in Texas. After that conference, Kyla was part of a group that helped introduce chemotherapy evidenced-based practice to Emerson 6.

"I think with the field we're in and with the patient population we have in oncology, you have to keep growing because research is always changing," Kyla said. "You really have to continue learning, which actually is a pleasure and is a great part of this job."
