I strive to provide high quality, safe, comprehensive anesthesia services and care to all my patients in the perioperative period. 

In the 8 years that I have been practicing anesthesia, I am resolute in my belief that creating and fostering a team environment with effective communication is crucial to developing an atmosphere of trust and the key to providing high quality care inside and outside of the OR with patients and colleagues alike.  As a collegiate athlete and previous marketing manager in my first career, I try to bring these skills and values into the OR and Anesthesia department. Outside of work, I love recreating in the outdoors. From snowboarding, hiking, biking, to waterskiing, beach lounging and lake time with my family, I love it all. Most importantly I love spending time with my husband and two daughters.

A life-long South Shore resident, John's is dedicated to providing the highest level of anesthesia care in the community setting. When not in the OR, John enjoys spending time with his two daughters, his rescue dog, tending to his bees hives, and being by the ocean.

My treatment philosophy is to provide high quality, compassionate, and patient centered care.

Throughout my career at BU Medical Center and South Shore Health, I have divided my time between healthcare administration and direct patient care. Administratively, I have focused on medical education, patient safety and quality improvement. However, my true passion for medicine is driven by the bonds I build with my patients and caring for them throughout life. 

I am a Magna Cum Laude graduate of Boston University, and I received my medical degree from Boston University School of Medicine. I completed his surgical and urological residencies at the Albert Einstein/Montefiore Medical Center in Bronx, NY. Upon my graduation, I joined South Shore Urology. I am certified by the American Board of Urology and I strive to provide the highest quality patient care in a compassionate environment.

Being a member of South Shore Health anesthesia department is personally and professionally rewarding. I believe having high standards of care allows for a safe and effective patient experience.

I received my undergraduate nursing degree from Boston College and my masters in anesthesia from Northeastern University. Practicing in the Boston area has been important to me as my children grow. We enjoy our friends and family as well as skiing, soccer and the outdoors.

I grew up on the South Shore and attended Holy Cross for college where my concentration was pre-medical sciences and sleep research. During summers in college I worked as an EMT and following college I worked in a collaborative Brigham and Women’s Hospital/Harvard Medical School lab studying allergy and asthma. While at the University of Massachusetts Medical School and Lahey Clinic my focus was on primary care internal medicine. In 2006 I was the recipient of the “Patient Care Award” which is Lahey Clinic’s highest physician honor. I joined South Shore Medical Center in 2006.

Dr. O'Brien is Medical Director of Maternal-Fetal Medicine at South Shore Health. 

As a Maternal-Fetal Medicine physician, I am dedicated to caring for women and families navigating high-risk and medically complex pregnancies with expertise, compassion, and individualized attention. 

I strive to integrate evidence-based medicine with a holistic approach that recognizes the physical, emotional, and social factors that shape each patient’s experience. 

I am also committed to advocating for equitable healthcare and improving access and outcomes for marginalized and underserved communities.

My goal as a provider is to provide a listening ear so my patients are aware that I care about their concerns. 

I have been a nurse practitioner in Women's health since 2009. I have enjoyed establishing rapport with my patients over these years. Outside of work, I love traveling, going to the beach, cooking, baking, and spending time with my husband and three children.
