Update on COVID-19 Testing
Effective immediately, South Shore Health (South Shore Hospital, South Shore Medical Center, and Health Express) will only conduct COVID-19 tests on patients requiring admission to the hospital or are at high risk and for healthcare workers that are in contact with a positive patient and become symptomatic. This involves both state Department of Public Health (DPH) and vendor tests, which use the same testing medium. The shortage of test kits is a serious problem across Massachusetts.
If a patient is cleared for discharge following screening and evaluation, they will need to isolate at home (per CDC guidance) until testing is more widely available.
