South Shore Health recently welcomed Senator Edward J. Markey (D-Mass.) and members of his team, including Jim Cantwell, Senior Advisor and State Director, to recognize a recently awarded $1.55 million federal grant that will support the development of additional parking near South Shore Hospital's campus in South Weymouth.
The funding was secured by Senator Markey alongside Senator Elizabeth Warren (D-Mass.) as part of the federal appropriations process.
The planned parking improvements will enhance access and convenience for patients, families, caregivers, and visitors seeking care at South Shore Health, including the Dana-Farber Brigham Cancer Center at South Shore Health.
During the visit, Senator Markey toured South Shore Hospital's new West Unit expansion and met with South Shore Health leaders, providers, colleagues, board members, and community representatives.
Among those attending were South Shore Health Board Chair Thomas McCarthy, Weymouth Mayor Michael Molisse, Senator Patrick M. O’Connor (R-Mass.) and Representative James M. Murphy.
"We are grateful to Senator Markey for his continued, strong support of South Shore Health and the communities we serve," said Allen Smith, President and CEO of South Shore Health. "This investment will help improve access to care by making it easier for patients and families to reach the services they need at South Shore Hospital, close to home."
“Being a community hospital means being an accessible hospital. With Senator Warren, I’m proud to have secured $1.55 million in Senate funding for South Shore Hospital to upgrade their transportation infrastructure, so community members can reliably access the care they rely on for the health of their families,” said Senator Markey.
The future parking area, located adjacent to 797 Main Street in South Weymouth, will help accommodate growing patient demand and support South Shore Health's ongoing efforts to ensure a safe, convenient, and accessible care experience for all.
