South Shore Health honored with prestigious HIMSS Award
South Shore Health has been honored with the prestigious Health Information Management Systems Society (HIMSS) Stage 7 award for inpatient and outpatient services and technology.
This recognition represents South Shore Health’s highest level on the HIMSS Inpatient Electronic Medical Record Adoption Model (EMRAM) and Outpatient Electronic Medical Record Adoption Model (O-EMRAM). Less than 10% of healthcare organizations have achieved this honor.
“This acknowledgement means that South Shore Health is using electronic medical record technology to its fullest potential to provide optimal health engagements and care to our patients,” said Cara Babachicos, Chief Information Officer of South Shore Health, the parent company of South Shore Hospital. “Thank you to all of our colleagues at South Shore Health for advancing the use of technology when caring for our patients!”
HIMSS is a global, cause-based, not-for-profit organization focused on better health through information and technology. They developed the EMRAM as a way to gauge how hospitals and ambulatory clinics leverage electronic medical record systems to improve patient care. There are eight stages (0-7) to the EMRAM process. Stage 7 is the final stage, and represents South Shore Health’s superior patient record environment.
To achieve HIMSS stage 7, SSH had to pass three major milestones:
- Prove that we have met all required EMRAM measures
- Conduct and present six case studies for both Inpatient and Outpatient
- Host a successful site visit, complete with a presentation and site walkthrough
The Stage 7 site visit and presentation required SSH to share over 5 hours of material with HIMSS, including but not limited to an overview of our health care system, security and hardware infrastructure, reportable measures, and case studies. For the walkthrough, HIMSS observed and asked questions in great detail to measure and evaluate the technology we have in place for the following departments:
- Critical Care Unit (CCU)
- Two Med Surg Floors
- Health Information Management (HIM)
- Emergency Department (ED)
- Blood Bank
- South Shore NeuroSpine
- South Shore Medical Center
- Outpatient Rehabilitation Services
- Weymouth Woods OBGYN
“Through the successful integration, utilization, and optimization of our electronic medical record system, South Shore Health has proven that we continue to implement the measures necessary to deliver on our promise to provide the world-class care that the people of our region deserve,” said Nareesa Mohammed-Rajput, MD, Chief Medical Information Officer at South Shore Health. “While we celebrate this Stage 7 achievement, we remain committed to improving and applying our electronic medical record system to its fullest degree so that patients continue to receive unparalled care.”
