South Shore Health’s Nurse Residency Program has earned Practice Transition Accreditation Program® (PTAP) accreditation from the American Nurses Credentialing Center (ANCC).
This designation - the highest level awarded by the ANCC - recognizes organizations that demonstrate excellence in preparing new nurses for successful transition into practice.
“Our residency program blends mentorship, advanced practices, and hands‑on experience to support nurses as they transition into clinical practice with confidence and readiness,” said Andrew Harding, DNP, RN, Vice President and Chief Nursing Officer at South Shore Health. “This accreditation validates that our program provides the highest level of support for new nurses as they grow into skilled, confident clinicians.”
South Shore Health’s year‑long Nurse Residency Program supports newly graduated registered nurses through seminars, clinical simulations, and quality improvement projects, ensuring they are equipped to deliver advanced, compassionate care in today’s complex healthcare environment.
PTAP accreditation confirms that the program meets rigorous standards in leadership, curriculum, competency development, support structures, quality outcomes, and continuous improvement.
Accreditation is valid for four years.
Additionally, clinical nurse preceptors are foundational to the successful onboarding of new graduate nurses. They serve as the vital bridge between academic preparation and competent, confident clinical practice.
Through consistent guidance, real-time feedback, and role modeling of professional standards, preceptors translate theory into safe, effective patient care.
Nurse preceptors at South Shore Health not only build clinical skills, but also shape critical thinking, prioritization, communication, and professional identity.
“We are proud of this achievement and of our nursing team,” said Allen L. Smith, MD, MS, President and CEO of South Shore Health. “It reflects the collaborative culture we’ve built at South Shore Health, where nurses are valued as partners in shaping care and advancing our mission of delivering high‑quality, compassionate, and innovative care.”
