South Shore Health today announced the appointment of Rosanna DeMarco, PhD, RN, FAAN to its Board of Directors.
A nationally recognized nursing leader, researcher, and educator, Dr. DeMarco brings decades of experience in community‑engaged health work, academic leadership, and organizational strategy.
A fellow of the American Academy of Nursing, Dr. DeMarco has earned numerous awards for her long‑standing intervention research with people living with HIV locally and globally as well as studying work environment/culture outcomes across a variety of nursing practice areas.
Her distinguished career includes 11 years as a faculty member at UMass Boston, where she served as Chair of the Department of Nursing, Associate Dean for Academic Affairs, Interim Dean of the Manning College of Nursing & Health Sciences, and Associate Provost for the university.
Dr. DeMarco has also held prominent leadership roles in major nursing organizations, including serving as Chair of the American Academy of Nursing’s Expert Panel on Emerging and Infectious Diseases and as President of the Eastern Nursing Research Society.
In 2024, she was named a Living Legend by the American Nurses Association Massachusetts, an honor recognizing nurses who have made significant lifetime contributions to the profession.

A Brockton native, Dr. DeMarco received her BS in Nursing from Northeastern University, MS in Community Health Nursing from Boston College, and PhD from Wayne State University.
She currently resides in Quincy, MA with her spouse.
