South Shore Health, in collaboration with Mass General Brigham (MGB), is launching an advanced Urologic Oncology Program at Dana-Farber Brigham Cancer Center at South Shore Health.

The program expands access to robotic-assisted surgery and multidisciplinary cancer care for patients across the South Shore and Southeastern Massachusetts—delivered by experts from all three organizations.

Jointly led by Sergio Fefer, MD, Chief of Urology at South Shore Health, and Adam Kibel, MD, Chair of Urology at Mass General Brigham, the program will initially focus on prostate cancer, with plans to expand to kidney, bladder, testicular, and penile cancers.

The new program builds upon the strong foundation and comprehensive urologic care provided by South Shore Urology, which has earned a reputation for clinical excellence and a deep commitment to patients and families across the region.

The collaboration aims to enhance an already robust program with expanded expertise, advanced technology, and greater access to specialized cancer care.

“This program represents the next generation of cancer care on the South Shore,” said Dr. Fefer. “By combining our expertise with Mass General Brigham and Dana-Farber Cancer Institute, we’re giving patients access to state-of-the-art technology and nationally recognized specialists—right here in their community.”

Robotic-assisted surgery is at the core of the new program, offering patients minimally invasive treatment with smaller incisions, less pain, faster recovery, and exceptional precision.

Surgical and inpatient care will be provided at South Shore Hospital using the latest robotic technology, while outpatient consultations and follow-up care will be available at the Cancer Center and existing South Shore Health and MGB clinics.

“This unique collaboration is a powerful example of what we can achieve for our community,” said Sam Skura, Chief Operating Officer, South Shore Health. “Together with Mass General Brigham and Dana-Farber Cancer Institute, we are bringing cutting-edge expertise and technology to patients where they live.”

The program also builds on South Shore Health’s long-standing affiliation with Mass General Brigham and Dana-Farber Cancer Institute, reflecting a shared commitment to delivering high-quality, patient-centered, and technologically advanced cancer care across the region.

“This collaboration allows us to bring the most sophisticated and advanced capabilities to a community setting,” said Dr. Kibel. “Patients will have access to the same level of surgical innovation available at major academic medical centers, closer to where they live.”
