Significant Upgrades Planned at 51 Performance Drive for Radiation Oncology Treatment
Over the next several months, the Dana-Farber Brigham Cancer Center at South Shore Health at 51 Performance Drive in Weymouth will undergo a comprehensive technological upgrade.
This initiative will greatly improve the capabilities South Shore Health can offer patients undergoing radiation therapy at this location. 51 Performance Drive is one of two locations that offer radiation oncology treatments, the other being 101 Columbian Street in Weymouth.
“We recognize that investing in this upgrade is essential to staying at the forefront of healthcare innovation,” explains Peter Orio, MD, Vice Chair and Medical Director of Network Operations for the Department of Radiation Oncology.
“It underscores our dedication to providing our South Shore patients with the best possible care, supported by cutting-edge technology.”
Among the planned enhancements is the arrival of a new Varian True Beam Linear Accelerator, a state-of-the-art radiation machine that offers precision dosage delivery, diverse treatment options, and fast, accurate results – all of which save patients time, improve their comfort, and reduce exposure to unnecessary radiation.
Additionally, the CT simulator at this location will be upgraded to the same GE Discovery Simulation software currently utilized at the Dana-Farber Brigham Cancer Center at South Shore Health's 101 Columbian Street location, also in Weymouth.
Critical to preparing for radiation therapy, CT simulators determine the size, shape, and location of a tumor to inform a customized treatment plan for each patient.
These upgrades reflect the ongoing commitment shared by the three partners of the Dana-Farber Brigham Cancer Center at South Shore Health to deliver exceptional care and outcomes for our patients undergoing cancer treatment in our community for many years to come.
