Sam Skura Named Executive Vice President, COO of South Shore Health

Allen L. Smith, MD, MS, President & CEO, South Shore Health is pleased to announce the appointment of Sam Skura as Executive Vice President and Chief Operating Officer (COO).
Skura brings an impressive 30-year career in healthcare leadership experience across academic medical centers, community hospitals, and group practices.
In this critical role, Skura will oversee all clinical, administrative, and support service operations fostering collaboration among the health system’s 6,500 colleagues.
He will drive service transformation, enhance system integration, and focus on achieving both short- and long-term operational goals to ensure the seamless delivery of patient care.
Skura will be responsible for the operations of South Shore Hospital, 2 Pond Park Surgical Center, South Shore Medical Center, Health Express, South Shore VNA, and Emergency Medical Services.
Most recently, Skura served as Interim COO at Baystate Health, a Springfield, Massachusetts- based health system with over 13,000 employees. There, he oversaw clinical operations across five hospitals, ambulatory care sites, and home and hospice services.
His leadership helped establish Baystate Health as a regional leader in tertiary care and demonstrated his strong commitment to community health.
Prior to this role, he held leadership positions such as President of Baystate Medical Center and SVP of Hospital Operations for Baystate Health, as well as COO at Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center and Vice President of Clinical Operations at Lahey Hospital and Medical Center.
Skura’s education includes a Master of Business Administration from the Isenberg School of Management at UMass, a Master of Public Health from Boston University, and a Bachelor’s degree in Economics from Brandeis University.
