Leapfrog rating designates South Shore Hospital among the safest in the U.S.

South Shore Hospital has once again earned an “A” safety grade rating from the Leapfrog Group, a designation that ranks the hospital among the safest in the United States.

South Shore Hospital is part of South Shore Health, a not-for-profit, charitable health system offering primary and specialty care, hospital care, home health and community care, emergency and urgent care, and preventative and wellness services. It is the largest independent health system in Southeastern Massachusetts.

The Leapfrog Group, a national nonprofit healthcare ratings organization, assigns letter grades to hospitals based on their patient safety and performance twice a year. In the spring of 2019, South Shore Hospital also earned an “A” safety grade rating.

Caring for patients and families is at the center of everything we do at South Shore Health. Improving quality, safety and the patient experience is everyone's responsibility. Together, as one, we work hard every day to provide superior care for our patients and their families,” said Rose DiPietro, interim President & CEO.

Known as the Leapfrog Hospital Safety Grades, safety ratings of A, B, C, D and F are assigned to hospitals nationwide based on their performance in preventing medical errors, infections and other harms.

Developed under the guidance of expert panelists, the Leapfrog Hospital Safety Grade uses publicly available hospital safety data to assign letter grades to more than 2,600 U.S. hospitals bi-annually. It is calculated by top patient safety experts, peer reviewed, fully transparent and free to the public.
