On April 1, Bill Fallon, a member of the South Shore Health Foundation Board of Trustees, hosted a leadership reception in Hingham.

The reception brought South Shore residents and community leaders together to learn more about the local healthcare landscape, South Shore Health’s response to current challenges, and the advanced levels of care we’re able to provide.

Speakers at the reception included Allen Smith, MD, MS, President & CEO, South Shore Health, and Jason Tracy, MD, Vice President & Chief Medical Officer, South Shore Health, who discussed the evolution of South Shore Health and how our capabilities have grown over the years.

“It was 100 years ago when Dr. George Emerson envisioned the kind of place that we’re talking about [tonight],” Tracy said. “I’d argue that what we’ve put together as a system is what he envisioned…we’re not a regular community hospital. We’re so much more.”

In addition, the evening featured moving remarks from Baba Shetty, a South Shore resident who received life-saving care at South Shore Hospital after suffering a cardiac event in the fall of 2023.

Mr. Shetty spoke highly of the coordinated, skilled care he received, both in the immediate aftermath of his cardiac event and when he returned to South Shore Hospital as a patient in our Cardiac Rehabilitation Program.

“The Cardiac Rehab team at South Shore Hospital are amazing,” he said. “The team got me back in shape after my hospitalization – but more importantly, they gave me my confidence back.”

Mr. Shetty shared the story of the life-saving care he received from local first responders and the caregivers at South Shore Hospital.

Mr. Shetty also shared a message of gratitude that these life-saving resources were available close to home.

“I’ll consider these remarks successful if anyone here shifts their mindset from perhaps taking South Shore Hospital a bit for granted to, like me and my family, being profoundly, intentionally grateful that it is here,” he said.

We’d like to thank Mr. Shetty for sharing his story, Mr. Fallon for hosting this event, and all of our attendees for their ongoing support.
