South Shore Health Urgent Care: Six Things to Know

South Shore Health Urgent Care is staffed by experienced providers and equipped to treat a wide range of illnesses and injuries.

Health Express is now South Shore Health Urgent Care.

We’ve changed our name but not our commitment to providing seamless, high-quality urgent care for patients across the South Shore.

With six physician-led practices open seven days a week, there’s a South Shore Health Urgent Care office nearby when you need care.

But what really sets our urgent care offices apart is being part of the South Shore Health system, said Director of Operations Jeff Agnew.

“Through this connection to South Shore Health, our patients have access to the health system’s many resources, services and specialties,” Agnew said.

“Whether it’s advanced imaging or a follow up with an orthopedic specialist, we can connect our patients to the care they need.”

The training and experience of South Shore Health Urgent Care providers is another differentiator, said Medical Director Dustin Cotliar, MD, MPH.

“Our providers have extensive emergency department training and experience,” Cotliar said.

“Our physicians are board-certified in emergency medicine, and several are active emergency department doctors at South Shore Hospital. Our nurse practitioners and physician assistants also have emergency department experience,” he added.

The integration with South Shore Health MyChart, South Shore Health’s electronic health record system, earlier this year has given patients a more connected and seamless care experience, Agnew said.

Through South Shore Health MyChart, patients and their providers have easy access to their medical records, including office visits, lab tests and X-ray results, vaccine history and prescription information, all in one place.

“This allows for better communication with providers and better care for patients,” Cotliar said.

The launch of two new MyChart features – “On My Way” and appointment scheduling – makes South Shore Health Urgent Care even more convenient for patients, Agnew said.

With “On My Way,” patients can check current wait times at any South Shore Health Urgent Care office, choose a less busy location, and pre-register for a more seamless check in process.

While most of our patients still walk in for care, being able to schedule an appointment is beneficial for people with busy schedules, Agnew said.

It’s convenient, timely care

South Shore Health Urgent Care is open seven days a week and on most holidays (excluding Thanksgiving and Christmas). Our offices are open Monday through Friday evenings until 7 PM – after many primary care providers’ offices are closed.

With offices in Abington, Braintree, Kingston, Pembroke, Plymouth, and Weymouth, there is a South Shore Health Urgent Care location close to you.

It’s quick and efficient

Unlike busy hospital emergency rooms, where it may take hours to be seen by a provider, wait times are short at South Shore Health Urgent Care, with patients generally evaluated and treated in less than an hour.

Patients can shorten wait times further by scheduling an appointment or using the “On My Way” feature in MyChart. Walk-in care is still available at any South Shore Health Urgent Care location.

It’s more than just urgent care

In addition to treating medical issues, South Shore Health Urgent Care provides occupational health services for area employers, including drug and alcohol testing, pre-employment physicals and department of transportation (DOT) physicals for commercial drivers.

We also offer summer camp and sports physicals for children and teens.

It’s more affordable than an emergency room visit

Even with medical insurance, receiving care in a hospital emergency department can cost 10 times as much as a visit to South Shore Health Urgent Care.

Urgent care is usually a lower level of copay under most health insurance coverage plans. To determine your copay or coverage, we suggest calling the member services number on the back of your insurance card prior to your visit.
