Play Ball: Preparing Your Shoulder for Pitching this Spring

Baseball season is upon us on the South Shore!

Whether you're a Little League coach or the starting pitcher for your high school team, baseball season means plenty of throwing - which in turn leads to plenty of stress on your shoulder.

This blog post features two video demonstrations by Rob Shirley, PT, DPT that will help keep your shoulder in prime throwing shape for the entire season.

How to screen your shoulder before pitching or throwing

In this video, Rob demonstrates a number of shoulder movements that can help determine if your shoulder and rotator cuff are healthy enough to throw.

If you experience any discomfort when doing these movements, you should speak to a medical professional before heavy-duty throwing.

Six warm-up stretches for pitchers and throwers

Warming up is key for any thrower, but it's especially important early in the season - after a winter away from the diamond, you don't want to jump right back into throwing 100 pitches at batting practice!

Rob demonstrates six exercises you can do to get your shoulder nice and limber.
