M. Reza Afrasiabi, MD

My mission is to provide every patient on the acute care surgery and trauma surgery services with the highest quality of care inside and outside of the operating room.

I was raised in Southern California and moved to Boston to complete my undergraduate degree in mathematics at MIT.  After completing general surgery residency in Chicago, I moved back to Boston to complete fellowships in Surgical Critical Care and Acute Care Surgery at the Brigham. I love the outdoors and spend my free time snowboarding and hiking throughout the northeast with my friends and family.

My mission is to promote patient advocacy by giving my patients a voice, protecting their rights, and ensuring their safety.

I went into anesthesia because of a positive experience I had while undergoing surgery. I felt like a person, not a number or specimen. It's that personal touch that I strive to provide to each patient I'm honored to care for. My family is my rock; my friends are my power; my patients are my passion.

My goal is to provide patients with a deep understanding of their problem and work together to get the best results possible. 

What I love about orthopedic surgery is the ability to make a profound impact on the quality of life of my patients. No two shoulders are the same, so I think it is crucial to spend time talking with patients to understand their presentation and come up with a treatment plan. Technology is ever evolving and I think it is important to integrate that into my practice to ensure great outcomes. Outside of work I enjoy spending time with my family and going to the beach.

My mission is to educate and support patients to become knowledgeable and interactive in their medical management.

It is a privilege to encourage open communication and establish a trusting relationship with my patients.  I aim to empower active participation, fostering a more favorable outcome throughout their medical journey.
