Non-Invasive Prenatal testing (NIPT), also known as cell-free DNA is a prenatal test that screens for common chromosome conditions, such as Trisomy 21 (Down syndrome). NIPT is focused on screening for chromosome conditions, but it can also reveal the sex of the baby if desired.
Screening tests are used to estimate whether a fetus has a higher or lower chance of having a chromosome condition. If you have a positive result, a diagnostic test will be offered to you. Only a diagnostic test can tell for sure if a baby is affected by a chromosome condition.
To help prepare for your first-trimester ultrasound visit, please complete the following:
- Watch this video providing details about first-trimester screening/NIPT
- Complete this Health Questionnaire (if you do not have access to a printer, you may complete this upon arrival, but please arrive 15 minutes prior to your appointment time).
If you elect to test, obtain your NIPT blood test results here.
