Members of South Shore Health’s EMS, Emergency Department and Trauma Services Teams are being honored with the Outstanding Team Response Award by the Metropolitan Boston Emergency Medical Services Council (MBEMSC). The award is presented annually to any team of responders who demonstrate a professional and highly team-oriented approach to patient care during an extremely severe medical emergency.

“We are truly honored to receive this award,” said Eugene Duffy, NR-P, Director of Emergency Medical Services (EMS) at South Shore Health. “After just 15 days as the 911 service for the Town of Weymouth, the team met the challenge of one of our worst nightmares. The timely response and deep compassion from the EMS providers who responded to the incident involving Sergeant Chesna and Vera Adams is unforgettable.”

According to the MBEMSC, the South Shore Health EMS, Emergency and Trauma Services teams are being recognized for their outstanding emergency response to the tragic incidents involving Weymouth Police Sergeant Michael Chesna and Weymouth resident, Vera Adams. The teams will receive the award alongside Weymouth Police, Weymouth Dispatch and the Weymouth Fire Department who helped deliver care during the medical emergency on July 15, 2018.

Every year, the MBEMSC recognizes the accomplishments of EMS providers who have made significant contributions within Region IV, which is comprised of 62 cities and towns in the Metropolitan Boston area.

In addition to receiving the Outstanding Team Response Award, South Shore EMS Paramedic, Richard Kelly has been named EMS Educator of the Year and Weymouth Police Department’s Jen Pompeo, will be awarded First Responder of the Year.

“For more than 20 years, Rich has dedicated his entire professional career to EMS and teaching others,” said Duffy. “His work ethic and his willingness to care for others are truly unprecedented. I am extremely proud to work alongside Rich and can't thank him enough for all he has done for South Shore EMS.”

The awards will be presented at the MBEMSC annual awards dinner beginning at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday, November 7, 2019 at the American Legion Post 440, 295 California Street, in Newton, Mass.
