Members of the AfriMed Network, a charity which funds free healthcare in Côte d’Ivoire, recently visited South Shore Health. The delegation met with Art Mombourquette, Vice President Emergency Medicine and Support Services.

Led by Gene Hartigan, Chairman, CEO, AfriMed Network, and Peter Forman, President, CEO, South Shore Chamber of Commerce, the delegation was here to learn more about the procurement of medical equipment, supplies, and pharmaceuticals.

“On behalf of South Shore Health and its leadership, we were very pleased to host the members of the AfriMed Network, who work to ensure that the citizens of Côte d’Ivoire are provided with basic health services and preventive medicine that might lead to a reduction in mortality rates," said Mombourquette.

During its trip to Massachusetts, the group also met with representatives from the Massachusetts Biotechnology Council, Africans in Boston, South Shore Chamber of Commerce, and The U.S. Commercial Service – an arm of the U.S. Trade Commission. Members also enjoyed a tour of the JFK Library in Dorchester.

“Our long-term goal is to set in motion a support system of health care services that will accelerate the general health of the Côte d’Ivoire population," Hartigan said. "Better health will help to increase economic growth for Côte d’Ivoire and the West African region.”
