South Shore Health EMS Hosts Child Passenger Seat (CPS) Certification Course for Local First Responders

According to the National Highway Transportation Safety Administration, 59% of observed car seats and booster seats are improperly installed or misused, increasing a child’s risk of injury or death during a car crash.

In an effort to make sure children are safe on every ride, South Shore Health EMS recently hosted a Child Passenger Seat (CPS) certification course for first responders in the region.

More than 30 attendees participated in the three-day course, which included classroom instruction, hands-on work with car seats, and a community safety seat checkup event.

Upon certification, these first responders will be a great resource in our community, assisting parents and caregivers with proper car and booster seat installation, child restraint systems, and seat belts.

A special thank you to Officer Terry Downing from Quincy Police Department, Michael Crosby, Michael Roussel, Magda Colon and Mandi Summers from the Massachusetts Child Passenger Safety Program, and Michelle Salfity and Taishana Lewis from Boston EMS for heading up this training and sharing your considerable knowledge and expertise with us!
