Frequently Asked Questions about Single Billing at South Shore Health

Effective May 2, 2026, South Shore Health is moving to a single billing format. Below, we answer frequently asked questions about this change and how it may affect your experience.

1. What is single billing?

Single billing is a way of combining the self-pay portion of hospital and physician billing into one statement.

In the past, you may have received one bill for hospital-related services and another bill for physician-related services.

With single billing, you will receive one bill for the self-pay portion of those hospital- and physician-related services.

Please note that you may still receive separate bills from other practitioners or specialists involved in your care.

2. What are the benefits of single billing?

Single billing allows you to receive one simple bill that contains your charges for both hospital and physician services.

This helps eliminate confusion and make it easier to understand any balances you may owe.

3. Does the single billing format include self-pay balances from different locations across South Shore Health?

Yes.

Patients will receive a consolidated billing statement for self-pay balances for hospital- and physician-related services received at any of our locations.

Please note that you may still receive separate bills from other practitioners or specialists involved in your care.

5. Why is South Shore Health implementing single billing?

We want to provide our patients with a consolidated statement to simplify the billing process and eliminate confusion wherever possible.

6. Is there a cost associated with single billing?
