Family Gives Back After Positive NICU, FICare Experience
Krystin and Stephen had two babies spend time in South Shore Hospital’s Level III Messina Family Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) – Teddy (now almost 5 years old) and Lucy (one year old).
Teddy was born before the implementation of our innovative Family Integrated Care (FICare) Program, which aims to make parents equal members of their child’s neonatal care team and helps parents develop the skills they need to safely participate in baby’s care, both in the NICU and upon discharge.
After experiencing the benefits of FICare with Lucy, Krystin and Stephen became strong advocates for the program.
They even shared their experience in a presentation at a statewide meeting on family engagement in the NICU!
To give back to the NICU, Krystin and Stephen asked for donations in lieu of gifts for Lucy’s first birthday in June. They recently visited the NICU to deliver a heartwarming donation of mamaRoo infant swings, white noise machines, Polaroid cameras, Baby Einstein toys, and other items which will be used by future NICU families.
The visit also allowed the family to reconnect with some of the doctors and nurses who were involved in Teddy and Lucy’s care.
We’re grateful to Krystin, Stephen, Teddy, and Lucy for their kindness and generosity!
