South Shore Health has been named a 2025 WorkWell Massachusetts Award winner, earning statewide recognition for exemplary worksite health promotion. Presented by the Worksite Wellness Council of Massachusetts (WWCMA), in partnership with Healthiest Employers, the award celebrates South Shore Health’s commitment to fostering a culture of well-being and providing best-in-class programs that support the health of its workforce.
“Providing care for others requires deep compassion, resilience, and commitment,” said Dr. Michael Nevarez, Medical Director, Colleague Support and Well-Being at South Shore Health. “This award reaffirms our belief that supporting the well-being of our healthcare workers is essential to delivering exceptional care to our community.”
Dr. Nevarez credited the efforts of South Shore Health’s Human Resources Wellness Team and the organization’s volunteer Well-being Committee for their creativity and dedication in developing and promoting programs that prioritize colleague health and resilience.
Programs highlighted in South Shore Health’s award application include a wide-range of resources and services like mindfulness workshops and stress management seminars, financial health programs, flexible and accessible psychological support with mental health professionals via an Employee Assistance Program, peer support for colleagues around difficult events, fitness challenges, and nutrition activities - all designed to meet the diverse needs of employees across the organization.
“Our wellness programming goes beyond physical health, encompassing mental and emotional well-being, reflecting our holistic approach to wellness,” explained Lisa Rabideau, MHA, Executive Director, Organizational Development. “These programs are not just activities; they are a commitment to the well-being of our colleagues, designed to be inclusive, engaging, and accessible, helping our colleagues prioritize their own wellness journey.”
“The innovative approaches and high standards set by organizations across Massachusetts made this year’s selection process particularly challenging, underscoring the significant progress we’re making in advancing workplace wellness,” said Barb Petersen, WWCMA Board Director and Co-Chair of the Awards & Recognition Committee.
