South Shore Hospital's surgical services team includes highly-skilled board-certified surgeons and anesthesiologists, certified registered nurse anesthetists and nurses, technicians, and other perioperative staff members who closely collaborate before, during, and following each surgery. Together, our team performs over 13,000 inpatient and outpatient surgeries each year, in a full range of surgical specialties.
We are the first and only verified and designated Level II Trauma Center south of Boston, including the Cape and Islands. We are also one of only three hospitals in all of Massachusetts with a Level II license.
Many of the surgical programs at South Shore Hospital include the expertise of surgeons from Brigham and Women’s Hospital. Together the teams work as one to give patients and families confidence when they need it most.
These surgical services include:
South Shore Hospital offers minimally invasive surgery for a wide range of conditions, from common hernia, gall bladder and appendix surgeries, to more complex procedures involving the colon, liver, stomach, esophagus, bladder and reproductive organs. Our surgeons can reach the same internal organs through smaller incisions — reducing patient pain and scarring while speeding recovery.
Our Outpatient Rehabilitation Center helps patients regain maximum flexibility and mobility following their surgery, and South Shore VNA —part of the home care division of our Health System — work with patients to facilitate recovery after surgery at home.
South Shore Hospital follows recognized standards and guidelines for surgical practice, as established by the Association of Perioperative Registered Nurses, the Association for the Advancement of Medical Instrumentation, Centers for Disease Control and the American Society of PeriAnesthesia Nurses.
