At South Shore Health System, our diagnostic imaging team uses computed tomography, or CT, to produce a series of detailed, three-dimensional images of parts of the body. This non-invasive, painless scan uses special x-ray equipment and computers to produce many pictures or images of the inside of your body that can often provide greater clarity and more detailed information than conventional X-rays.
A CT scan can produce detailed images of bones, organs, soft tissues and blood vessels. Often, these scans are used to diagnose conditions such as cancer, musculoskeletal disease, and trauma to certain areas of the body.
A written order must be obtained from your physician specifying the need for this procedure prior to obtaining services.
