South Shore Health System (formerly, South Shore Health and Educational Corporation) is a not-for-profit, tax-exempt, charitable Health System that provides a broad range of health services to the 620,000 residents of Southeastern Massachusetts.
South Shore Health System brings together like-minded people who work “As One” to benefit our community by promoting good health and by healing, caring and comforting. Our Health System was created to deliver care that is more coordinated, accessible and affordable. We seek to align with others to optimize the full continuum-of-care services for patients, families, and communities encompassing accessible and affordable delivery of prevention and wellness services, chronic disease management, behavioral health, and acute episodic care, regardless of complexity. Our goal is deliver safe, reliable care in the appropriate settings where important patient information is readily available.
South Shore Hospital, a charitable, not-for-profit, tax-exempt provider of emergency, maternity, neonatal, pediatric, medical, surgical, cancer, cardiovascular, orthopedic, trauma and critical care services.
South Shore Visiting Nurse Association (VNA), a charitable, not-for-profit, tax-exempt, Medicare-certified agency providing home health care services, including skilled nursing, specialty disease management programs, physical, occupational and speech therapy, home health aide and medical social work to adults and children at home.
Hospice of the South Shore, a charitable, not-for-profit, tax-exempt Medicare-certified hospice program, offering compassionate home health care services to support terminally ill patients and their families.
Home & Health Resources, a private-duty home health care program m providing homemaker, personal care aide, certified home health aide, childcare aide and nursing services for individuals of all ages.
South Shore Physician Hospital Organization, a not-for-profit, taxable corporation formed in 1994 to provide managed care health insurance contracting and administrative services for its two organizational members: South Shore Hospital and the Physicians Organization of the South Shore (POSS).
Physicians Organization of the South Shore, a not-for-profit, taxable organization led by a physician-only Board of Directors. POSS was created because managed care health insurance contracts require individual physicians to join larger groups of providers who agree to work together to better coordinate how patient care is delivered. POSS represents primary and specialty care physicians, as well as advance practice clinicians, all of whom are on South Shore Hospital’s Medical Staff.
The South Shore Health System Provider Council was developed as part of the process to simplify our former governance model and bring together different provider groups to work on Health System initiatives. The Provider Council is a forum for clinicians to have a leadership role in the development and execution of Health System strategy and goals.
South Shore Medical Center, a not-for-profit multi-specialty medical practice of more than 100 providers engaged in internal medicine, family medicine, pediatrics, surgery, and obstetrics/gynecology. South Shore Medical Center is a wholly owned subsidiary of South Shore Physician Ambulatory Enterprise.
South Shore NeuroSpine, a medical practice providing care for patients with acute and chronic conditions of the brain, spine and nervous system. South Shore NeuroSpine is a wholly owned subsidiary of South Shore Physician Ambulatory Enterprise.
South Shore Property, a not-for-profit holding company of medically related services and properties, including the Dana-Farber/Brigham and Women’s Cancer Center in Clinical Affiliation with South Shore Hospital.
South Shore Health System Foundation, which generates philanthropic support to advance South Shore Health System’s charitable mission.
The Friends of South Shore Health System, a membership organization whose purpose is to advance South Shore Health System’s mission. Members of the Friends volunteer to advance the good health of the region through community outreach and educational programs, fundraising events and social opportunities. The Friends is a program of South Shore Health System Foundation.
