Presidents' Circle Spotlight: VERTEX

Presidents’ Circle members are a distinguished group of small and large businesses alike that demonstrate a commitment to community well-being through philanthropic support of South Shore Health.

Since 1995, VERTEX has been providing forensic consulting; engineering design; and construction, environmental and digital solutions throughout the globe. Since 2015, they’ve contributed to and supported more than 100 organizations all over the United States and internationally.

Here, representatives from VERTEX discuss how their success is influenced by empowering their employees and giving back to their community.

South Shore Health’s mission statement is Your Health. Our Passion. One Community. What are you passionate about?

“VERTEX is passionate about our lifetime of learning philosophy because we care for our employees and our clients,” says Kara Hackney, VERTEX’s Giving Committee Chair.

"And just as South Shore Health promotes ongoing education—especially nursing career advancement that benefits patients and strengthens the healthcare workforce, VERTEX emphasizes continuous learning and professional development which benefits both our employees and valued clients."

"Combining practical experience with academic learning creates a space where real innovation happens. VERTEX’s Lifetime of Learning Program begins internally with courses developed by in-house experts. In addition, we’ve developed a partnership with the University of Colorado Denver that allows our team to co-create graduate programs for our employees with the resources of a world-class university at our fingertips. These graduate degrees are fully funded for eligible employees."

As a South Shore Health supporter, what part of our work inspires you most?

"One of South Shore Health’s core values — We know our employees are the best thing about our organization — fully resonates with us," says Ben Strong, Chief Operating Officer, VERTEX. "Prioritizing continuing education and offering collegiate programs in nursing to promote a fulfilled, motivated workforce that provides world-class patient care aligns with our lifetime of learning philosophy."

"VERTEX is committed to combining academic and practical learning to enrich our employee experience while adding value to those we serve. We embrace a culture where the pursuit for learning is encouraged and celebrated."

How does your corporate philanthropy strategy inspire you on a personal level?

“Part of our core values at VERTEX is that we care – we care about our employees and their families, our clients, as well as our communities,” says Jeff Picard, President of VERTEX.  “We strive to provide support in various areas of charitable giving relating to health, emergency response, environmental issues and family needs. In this way, we are better connected to our communities, are supporting our employees and their passions, and demonstrating our core value of caring.”

"Our charitable giving committee was developed to support causes that our employees, clients, and vendors are passionate about, so every cause we support is personal."

"VERTEX is inspired to make a positive difference in our community by investing in causes relating to health, emergency response, environmental issues, and family needs but also by nurturing our employees to reach their full potential through our Lifetime of Learning Program, which adds substantial value to the work we do and the clients we serve."
