Hospice of the South Shore, part of South Shore Health, provides care for those who are terminally ill using a patient and family-centered approach regardless of a person’s diagnosis or ability to pay for services.

On June 12, hundreds of people from across the region showed their support for the program and the compassion and caring it has provided to their loved ones through the 30th annual Walk for Hospice. Over 600 participants, representing more than 70 corporate and family teams from across the South Shore, took part in the community event either at Weymouth High School or in their own neighborhoods and raised over $205,000.

We'd like to extend a heartfelt ‘thank you’ to our community, our sponsors, walkers, donors, staff, and volunteers for participating in the 30th annual Walk for Hospice,” said South Shore Health President & CEO, Allen L. Smith, MD, MS.

“We're thrilled the rain held off long enough for us to remember our loved ones and to celebrate the compassionate care provided by Hospice of the South Shore.”

Participant Liz Hyder-McMorrow walked in memory of her late mother who was a patient in the program. “Hospice of the South Shore helped us in so many ways,” she said. “They were honest with me, they helped us navigate discussions about death with my children, they provided assistance with daunting paperwork and, most importantly, they helped us achieve peace of mind.”

Hospice of the South Shore has served more than 770 local patients and their families in 33 regional communities. Patients range in age from 17 years old to over 100 years old.
