South Shore Hospital, part of South Shore Health, is proud to announce the certification of its Cardiac Rehabilitation Program by the American Association of Cardiovascular and Pulmonary Rehabilitation (AACVPR).

This distinction highlights South Shore Health’s commitment to providing the highest standards of cardiac rehabilitative care and improving the quality of patients’ lives.

“Certification from the AACVPR is a ‘seal of approval’ that shows South Shore Hospital’s rehabilitation program is capable and committed to improving the lives of our patients every day,” said Karen LaFond, MSN, RN, CCRP, Nurse Manager of the Cardiac Rehab program. “Earning this distinction underscores the expertise of our multidisciplinary team and highlights the high-quality care we provide throughout our patients’ entire rehabilitation journey.”

Cardiovascular rehabilitation programs are designed to help people with cardiovascular problems including heart attacks and coronary artery bypass graft surgery.

Using a four-phased approach, South Shore Hospital’s Cardiac Rehabilitation Program creates a personalized plan for each patient which helps them live an active, healthier lifestyle, and reduces their risk of another health event.

Every three years, the AACVPR evaluates rehabilitation programs to ensure that patients receive the highest standards of care, which improves outcomes and long-term success. To earn this accreditation, South Shore Hospital’s Cardiac Rehabilitation Program met essential criteria and participated in an extensive review of its practices.

Each program’s application is reviewed by the AACVPR Program Certification Committee, and certification is awarded by the AACVPR Board of Directors.

Currently, South Shore Hospital operates one of the largest and busiest emergency departments in the commonwealth. It is the only hospital in Southeastern Massachusetts with 24-hour access to primary angioplasty, a life-saving heart treatment.

“With this certification, patients seeking rehab for their cardiovascular event have a clear and trusted healthcare choice on the South Shore,” added LaFond. “I am so proud of our team for continuing to provide exceptional, expert patient care.”
