South Shore Hospital Ranked Among Top 10 Best Hospitals in Massachusetts by U.S. News & World Report

South Shore Health today announced that U.S. News & World Report has ranked South Shore Hospital among the state’s top ten Best Hospitals for the 2021-2022 reporting year. South Shore Hospital is ranked 6th in the Metro Boston area and 8th in Massachusetts, making it the highest-ranked community hospital in the state due to its ongoing high-quality, compassionate care.

Additionally, South Shore Hospital earned a “High-Performance” score in the adult specialty of Urology, as well as five common adult procedures/conditions including: 

• Diabetes
• Heart Attack
• Heart Failure
• Kidney Failure
• Lung Cancer Surgery

• The only hospital in Southeastern Massachusetts with 24-hour access to primary angioplasty, a life-saving heart treatment.    

For the 2021-22 rankings and ratings, U.S. News evaluated more than 4,750 medical centers nationwide in 15 specialties and 17 procedures and conditions.

The U.S. News Best Hospitals methodologies are based largely on objective measures including risk-adjusted survival and discharge-to-home rates, volume, and quality of nursing.

This year’s high rankings from U.S. News follow South Shore Hospital’s Beacon Silver Award for Critical Care Excellence, awarded by the American Association of Critical Care Nurses (AACN) in July. This marks the third consecutive year that South Shore Hospital’s Critical Care Unit (CCU) has received the honor, which recognizes improvement in patient and family outcomes, as well as overall satisfaction. South Shore Hospital is one of only two CCU’s in Massachusetts to receive the association’s Silver Award for the 2020-2023 period.
