Moonlight & Miracles Gala Raises $600,000 for Mental Health and Substance Use Disorder Services

It was a perfect fall evening for this year’s Moonlight & Miracles Gala, as more than 400 attendees gathered in support of the Grayken Center for Treatment at South Shore Health.

The event, held on Friday, October 15, at Union Point in Weymouth, Mass. helped raise more than $600,000 for Behavioral Health and Substance Use Disorder services.

“So many people are touched by Substance Use Disorders and Behavioral Health challenges, and too few receive the care they deserve,” said Todd Kerensky, MD, Director of Addiction Medicine at South Shore Health. “We are extremely grateful to those in our community who continue to support patients and families faced with these challenges, while helping to ensure treatment is accessible to anyone who needs it.”

Beginning at 7 p.m., guests gathered beneath a billowing white tent and twinkling lights as they enjoyed cocktails, hors d'oeuvres, food stations and dessert while listening to a short program emceed by radio and TV personality, Billy Costa. The exquisite and chic affair featured a live and silent digital auction, as well as an ambitious “Raise the Paddle.” Music by the upbeat and lively K2, a Kahootz Entertainment Band rounded out the evening.

Established in 2019, the Grayken Center for Treatment at South Shore Health continues to be a critical resource on the South Shore. Driven by a magnanimous $10 million grant – given by John and Eilene Grayken of Cohasset – the Grayken Center allows South Shore Health to integrate Behavioral Health clinicians in its ambulatory sites; establish a rapid care treatment location for people with substance use disorder; and maintain a Mobile Integrated Health program which includes South Shore Hospital Emergency Department and Emergency Medical Services working alongside local police and fire agencies.

The Grayken Center also supports South Shore Health’s collaboration with Aspire Health Alliance and supports South Shore Health’s strong relationship with the Office Based Addiction Treatment program at Boston Medical Center.
