Pulmonary Rehabilitation

Improving the quality of life for people with chronic lung disease

South Shore Health's Pulmonary Rehabilitation Program helps patients living with emphysema, chronic bronchitis, asthma, cystic fibrosis, or another chronic lung condition to restore health and improve quality of life.

Our program combines therapeutic exercises with education on how to manage stress and how nutrition can improve health and fight infection. Our experts will also review respiratory medications, can provide oxygen therapy, and provide an overview of the anatomy of the respiratory system.

The program meets twice a week for up to 12 weeks at South Shore Hospital. Each session consists of one hour of monitored exercise in a group setting (customized to meet your ability). Exercise equipment includes stationary bicycles, treadmills, rowing machines, low-level weights, and arm-strengthening exercise machines.

Once a week, the exercise session is followed by an educational lecture.

We also offer a pulmonary support group on the fourth Thursday of every month at 1:30 PM at South Shore Hospital.
