Interested in conducting research at South Shore Health?

The Principal Investigator (PI) must be a South Shore Health employee or a member of the Medical Staff with an advanced degree or an RN operating within the scope of their practice. Students and external collaborators are not eligible to serve as a PI and must designate a PI who meets the required criteria. Please read our conflict of interest disclosure policy below for more information.

Follow the steps below to submit your request:

  1. Register and complete the human subject protection training on the The Collaborative Institutional Training Initiative (CITI Program) website. Clinical researchers must complete the Biomedical Research Investigators course and researchers conducting studies involving surveys, interviews, and/or focus groups must complete the Social & Behavioral Research Investigators course. If you completed training for other institutions, log in and click "Affiliate with Another Institution" and select South Shore Hospital.
  2. Register for an account on the IRBNet website. Click on the library manager for instructions to use IRBNet, as well as the submission requirements checklist, forms, templates, and guidance documents. All review decision letters will be issued electronically through this website.
  3. Register and submit on the SMART IRB website. For multi-site studies, the PI may request reliance on an external IRB; when the South Shore Health PI is a collaborator at another institution and/or when South Shore Health is engaged in human research that receives federal funds and is not interacting or intervening with subjects.

If you need help with a research request, contact Stephanie Smith at SSmith3 [at] or 781-624-4369.
