Psychosocial Oncology

Consultative Care

The psychosocial oncology program in the Multispecialty Clinic unit of the Center works with patients to reduce any emotional distress while going though cancer treatment. With appropriate treatment, patients can have an improved quality of life and are able to manage their treatment better. In fact, some studies suggest that there are better outcomes in cancer care if depression and anxiety are treated.

A psychiatrist specializing in oncology will talk with you about your current emotional concerns and will partner with you on a care plan, which may include medication to help you feel better. If medication is recommended, the psychiatrist will work with your oncologist or family doctor to make sure those prescriptions are filled.
