South Shore Medical Center Expands Blood Pressure Clinics

South Shore Medical Center is excited to announce the expansion of the South Shore Medical Center Nurse Blood Pressure (BP) Clinic!

The BP Clinic is an initiative of specially trained nurses working in collaboration with the primary care teams toward a goal of improving blood pressure in our patient population.

Currently, four BP Clinic nurses - Meghan Colantuoni, Juliana Van Pelt, Nicole Carraggi, and Kristen Peterson - offer several sessions each week for adult patients in Internal Medicine and Family Medicine at the Norwell practice.

The Medical Center hopes to expand the BP Clinic soon to Kingston and Quincy.

Any patient with a high blood pressure reading is eligible for the nurse BP Clinic, regardless of whether or not they have already been diagnosed with hypertension (high blood pressure).

The BP Clinic nurses offer intensive education about lifestyle factors that affect blood pressure, such as diet, exercise, and salt intake; they also help patients trouble-shoot problems with taking medications regularly and managing side effects.

Sometimes, it's hard to know if someone’s blood pressure is elevated only at the doctor’s office (the “white coat” effect) or if it is usually high - the BP Clinic nurses help clarify things for patients by gathering more data to find out the true range of blood pressure readings.

For patients in the clinic whose primary care providers prescribe medication adjustments, the nurses can initiate and adjust medications to meet their blood pressure goals.

Medical Center patients who have had a high blood pressure reading or have a diagnosis of hypertension and want to schedule a visit in our nurse BP Clinic can call 781-585-2200. No referral is required.
