South Shore Health Introduces New Telehealth Service Called South Shore CareNow

Health Topics

South Shore Health System—the region's leading healthcare provider—is committed to serving its patients, families, and neighbors with thoughtful, focused care. We are also intent on offering easier and more affordable care to the communities we serve.

As part of this effort, South Shore Health System introduced South Shore CareNow, an innovative, video-based, telehealth service which will provide patients with the convenience of visiting with a doctor wherever and whenever they need to: online or by using the South Shore CareNow mobile app.

"Patients on the South Shore and beyond will now have access to convenient healthcare 24 hours a day, 365 days a year," said Gene E. Green, MD, MBA, President and CEO, South Shore Health System.

South Shore CareNow is another avenue into our Health System for patients who need access to care when their primary care and urgent care options are not open and when the Emergency Department is just not the right place to be seen. It is with great enthusiasm that we offer this cutting-edge service to the over 20 communities we serve and beyond.

South Shore CareNow can be used by anyone in the state of Massachusetts and its doctors are board-certified and licensed to diagnose, recommend treatment, and prescribe medication if medically necessary for illnesses and ailments. The video appointment is conducted on a secure platform and typically takes about 10 minutes.

The fee for an on-demand virtual visit is $49.99 and is paid up-front by credit card. This fee is typically less than the average co-pay for an emergency room visit.  The service is available for anyone over the age of two years old and doctors can treat a variety of medical conditions typically treated in an urgent care setting including sore throat and stuffy nose, cold and flu symptoms, bronchitis, pink eye, and rashes. If a patient needs to be seen in person, South Shore CareNow will refer to a South Shore Health System provider.

You can access South Shore CareNow from SouthShoreCareNow.org or can download our free mobile app for your iPhone or Android by searching for South Shore CareNow. You must enroll and create an account before you can start using the service.
