About This Event

According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, an estimated 78 people die every day due to an opioid overdose. Studies show that residential supplies of pharmaceutical controlled substances, like those often found in home medicine cabinets, are often the supply of choice to both young people and criminals.

South Shore Medical Center has partnered with the Norwell Police Department to reduce access to unused and unwanted medications in the community. We would like to encourage all of our patients, as well as their families and friends, to consider bringing their unused and unwanted medications to the Norwell Police Department for appropriate disposal on National Drug Take-Back Day, October 26th, from 10:00 AM – 2:00 PM.

Norwell Police Department is located at 300A Washington St, Norwell, MA 02061.

  • Items allowed in the drop box include prescription medications, prescription patches, prescription ointments, over-the-counter medications, vitamins, sample medications, and medications for pets.
  • Items not allowed in the drop box include needles, hydrogen peroxide, inhalers, aerosol cans, lotions or liquids, and thermometers.

Please note that South Shore Medical Center locations cannot accept any products or medications for disposal.

South Shore Hospital also has a drop box available to the public, located inside the South Entrance on Fogg Road in Weymouth, adjacent to the Emergency entrance. The box is accessible 24 hours a day and is monitored by security system. The medicines can be dropped into the box anonymously, though it is recommended that you remove personal information from your prescriptions before discarding.
