Mindful eating is a practice which aims to enhance our awareness of our own experience with food, which can help us be more conscious of what we eat, but also reminds us that there is no correct or incorrect way to eat. This technique teaches us to recognize hunger and satiety cues more effectively—which improves portion control and prevents persistent overeating.
The technique teaches us to focus on our positive responses to what we eat and the benefits we receive from our food, while eliminating the negative feelings we sometimes associate with food like guilt. Mindful eating can help us gain a better appreciation of the foods we eat and how they support our health and well being.
