Bariatric Support Team

The South Shore Hospital Center for Metabolic and Bariatric Surgery includes a team of clinical experts who provide support to patients throughout the entire weight-loss surgery process. Meet some of the team members who are here to support all of our bariatric patients.

Lana Chentsova

Svetlana Chentsova, MSN, FNP-BC, RN-BC, CBN

Bariatric Program Manager

Svetlana has a diverse clinical background. She served in the US Air Force as an Aerospace Medicine Technician and later as a Public Health Technician. After the military, she joined Brigham Health as a medical assistant within the Department of Surgery. Upon becoming a Registered Nurse, she transitioned into the care of bariatric patients in the Center for Metabolic and Bariatric Surgery. After obtaining her advanced degrees, Svetlana returned to bariatric surgery in the new role of Bariatric Program Manager. Svetlana holds a B.S. in Nursing from University of Massachusetts Boston, Master’s Degree in Nursing from University of Phoenix, and Certificate of Advanced Graduate Studies from Massachusetts College of Pharmacy and Health Sciences. She is Board Certified in Ambulatory Nursing and Family Nursing Practice through American Nursing Credentialing Center. She holds a professional certification in Bariatric Nursing with the American Society of Metabolic and Bariatric Surgery. Svetlana has developed and performed educational seminars in the sensitive care of patients of size. In her spare time, Svetlana enjoys spending time with family and powerlifting.

Jack Donleavy

Jack Donleavy

New Patient Coordinator

Jack graduated from the University of Scranton with a Bachelor’s degree in Healthcare Administration. While pursuing his undergraduate degree, Jack did an internship at The University of Maryland Upper Chesapeake Hospital where he worked with the VP of Performance Improvement to track key performance indicators. After graduating, he worked at a public health organization rolling out initiatives to improve community health. As the New Patient Coordinator for the Center for Metabolic and Bariatric Surgery, Jack works closely with new patients to coordinate appointments and is always available to answer progdram-related questions that arise throughout the process.

Erika Teeter

Administrative Assistant to Dr. Malcolm Robinson

Erika graduated from Johnson and Wales University with a Bachelor’s degree in Graphic Design and New Media. After college, she decided to pursue a career in healthcare and began at Tufts Health Plan helping Medicare patients understand their medical insurance plan. It was at that point she decided she wanted to help patients in a medical setting. Prior to joining our program, she worked at Massachusetts Eye and Ear Infirmary as an administrative assistant for an Otolaryngologist. Outside of work, Erika enjoys traveling, going to Bruins games and enjoying the outdoors with friends and family.

Shelby Burns

Shelby Burns, MS, RD, LDN, CPT

Senior Clinical Bariatric Dietitian

Shelby graduated from Syracuse University with a B.S. in Nutrition and Dietetics and completed her dietetic internship through Simmons College in Boston. She then completed her M.S. in Human Nutrition and Metabolism Research at Boston University where her thesis work focused on nutritional outcomes after bariatric surgery. Prior to joining our program, she worked for four years in private nutrition counseling and has extensive corporate wellness, medical nutrition therapy, and weight-loss counseling experience. As a Certified Personal Trainer and Licensed Dietitian, she believes in a comprehensive lifestyle approach to help her patients. Shelby belongs to the Weight Management Dietetic Practice Group and the Massachusetts Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics. In her free time, she enjoys cross-fit, playing with her dog, and exploring Boston's food scene.

Dr. Paul Davidson

Paul Davidson, PhD, Bariatric Psychologist

Director of Behavioral Services

Dr. Davidson obtained a B.A. in Psychology from Brandeis University and earned his PhD at Brigham Young University. His dissertation and much of his clinical work focused on eating disorders. He completed an adult internship and child/adolescent fellowship at the Cambridge Hospital/Harvard Medical School. For many years he was a clinician, educator, and clinical supervisor with both inpatient and outpatient psychiatric services. After a decade as the director of clinical departments and a mental health center, he returned to primary clinical work in the bariatric field. Prior to coming to our program, he served as the Behavioral Director for the Weight and Wellness Center at Tufts Medical Center, where he was an Assistant Clinical Professor. He is a member of the American Society of Metabolic and Bariatric Surgery, and serves as an Integrated Health committee member. Dr. Davidson is an Instructor in Psychiatry at Harvard Medical School, has spoken nationally about bariatric topics, heads the behavioral section of the Bariatric Summit, and is a reviewer for the Obesity Surgery journal. He is passionate about his commitment to his patients, integrative care, and advancing behavioral medicine research.

Bariatric Physician Assistant

Yukiko graduated from Soka University of America with a Bachelor’s degree in Liberal Arts. She completed her Master’s degree in Physician Assistant Studies at Drexel University. Prior to joining our program, she worked at a private clinic specializing in medical weight management. Outside of work, Yukiko enjoys international food and travel.

Bariatric Physician Assistant

Allison graduated from University of Illinois with a B.S. in Psychology. She worked for two years as a certified nursing assistant in a skilled nursing facility and at an obstetric/gynecology outpatient clinic before attending graduate school. She completed her Master’s degree in Physician Assistant Studies at Rosalind Franklin University in Chicago. In her free time, Allison enjoys exploring the city of Boston, golfing with her friends and family and traveling.

Bariatric Physician Assistant

Yali graduated from Peking University Health Science Center (formerly Beijing Medical University) with a Bachelor degree in Medicine. She worked at medical research labs in California and St. Louis before attending a Physician Assistant program. She completed her Master of Medicine Science at St. Louis University. Prior to joining our program, she worked as a surgical physician assistant at Yale New Haven Hospital and MetroWest Medical Center. In her free time, Yali enjoys cooking, reading, music, and chatting with her friends and family.

Rob Matthews, PA-C

Rob Matthews, PA-C

Bariatric Physician Assistant

Rob graduated from Northeastern University with a Bachelor’s degree in Biology. He worked for a year as a certified nursing assistant following completion of an undergraduate degree at Tufts Medical Center. He completed his graduate degree at MCPHS University in Physician Assistant Studies. When he is not working, he enjoys outdoor activities, including fishing, hiking, and kayaking.

Monthly Support Groups

We offer a monthly support group for post-operative bariatric patients that is facilitated by a bariatric nurse. It’s a great way to connect with others who are facing the same challenges.
