As Southeastern Massachusetts most comprehensive health care system, South Shore Health System is often approached by the members of the media interested in finding out information and interviewing staff. Our News and Information team welcomes the opportunity to work with journalists to provide the public with valuable information and to share the important work that is going on at South Shore Health System.

Members of the media must schedule all on-site and phone interviews with our experts through our News & Information TeamWe will work to determine whether an interview is possible, coordinate arrangements, and then meet and accompany journalists to the interview. Please be assured that we will do our best to help arrange interviews, however, patient care is our first priority.

Contact the News and Information office at 781-624-8970 during regular business hours to arrange for interviews, photo shoots, and when seeking information. After hours, on weekends and holidays, please call 781-624-8000 and ask to have the Public Information Officer on call paged.

HIPAA Requirements

South Shore Health System conforms to the privacy requirements of the federal Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA) of 1996 which strictly protects the privacy of patients and their medical information.

To ensure patient privacy and confidentiality, reporters and photographers will be escorted by a member of the News and Information staff while on campus. Reporters are asked to seek interviews with patients only after they have been discharged from our care.

  • If you are a journalist seeking a patient’s condition, you must provide the patient’s full name.
  • South Shore Health System will provide a condition description as either: good, fair, or serious.
  • We will confirm the death of a patient only after next of kin has been notified.
