The Messina Family Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) at South Shore Hospital provides around-the-clock care for premature, critically ill newborns with complex care needs. Our NICU is the first and only community hospital in the state of Massachusetts to receive designation as a Level III NICU.
Both our Level III and Level II units are staffed with doctors, nurses, and respiratory therapists with specific training in the care of ill, premature, and recovery newborns. Our NICU doctors are dually affiliated with both South Shore Hospital and Boston Children’s Hospital.
We consider parents core members of our care team and are dedicated to partnering with you in your baby's care. Below are some examples of how we do this:
We also offer the AngelEye Camera System — an internet-based, secure video and audio solution on each bassinette that allows families and friends to interact with hospitalized newborns 24 hours a day from their computer, laptop, tablet, or smart phone.
