In its 2017-18 Best Hospitals list, U.S. News & World Report ranks South Shore Hospital as a top hospital in Boston Metro and Massachusetts. Our hospital and medical staff also received "high performance" marks for our Gynecology and Urology programs. Factors that U.S. News & World Report considered when ranking our hospital and programs include our track record of keeping patients safe, our use of advanced technologies, our nurse staffing and Magnet Hospital status, patient volumes and survival rates, the depth of our patient services, and our overall reputation for care.
Blue Cross Blue Shield of Massachusetts
Blue Cross Blue Shield of Massachusetts has named South Shore Hospital as a Blue Distinction Center+ in Knee and Hip Replacement. Our Hospital is among only 13 in Massachusetts to have earned the new designation. The Blue Distinction Centers for Specialty Care® program is a national designation awarded by Blue Cross and Blue Shield companies to medical facilities that have demonstrated expertise in delivering quality specialty care.
Gatehouse News / Wicked Local
South Shore Hospital and South Shore Medical Center have won the Gatehouse News/Wicked Local "Readers Choice" Award. Our Hospital has received the highest "Gold Regional Favorite" award in the hospital category in Weymouth. SSMC has received the highest "Gold Regional Favorite" award in the hospital and doctor/primary care physician or pediatrician categories in Norwell.
American Association of Critical Care Nurses
South Shore Hospital has earned a silver-level Beacon Award for Excellence from the American Association of Critical Care Nurses (AACN). The Beacon Award for Excellence – a significant milestone on the path to exceptional patient care and healthy work environments – recognizes unit caregivers who successfully improve patient outcomes and align practices with AACN’s six Healthy Work Environment Standards.
South Shore VNA has been named a Top Agency of the 2017 HomeCare Elite, a recognition of the top 25 percent of agencies in the country. HomeCare Elite honors the top-performing agencies as measured by five categories: quality of care (outcomes), best practice (process measure) implementation, quality improvement and consistency, patient experience (HHCAHPS), and financial performance. The award is sponsored by OCS HomeCare by National Research Corporation, the leading provider of home health and hospice metrics and analytics, and DecisionHealth, publisher of the most respected independent publication in the home care profession, Home Health Line.
The Joint Commission
South Shore Hospital has received the Gold Seal of Approval from The Joint Commission. The Gold Seal signifies that our Hospital’s acute, outpatient and home health programs have each earned maximum three-year accreditations. The Joint Commission is an independent, not-for-profit organization that accredits and certifies more than 20,500 health care organizations and programs in the United States. Joint Commission accreditation and certification is recognized nationwide as a symbol of quality that reflects an organization’s commitment to meeting certain performance standards.
American Heart Association
South Shore Health System has been recognized as a Bronze Level Recipient of the American Heart Association’s Workplace Health Achievement Index. This award reflects the effectiveness of the workplace health programs, as well as the overall heart health of their employees. Here at South Shore Health System, we promote a wellness culture, provide healthy eating options at the worksite, and demonstrate measurable outcomes related to workplace wellness.
Breast Care Center and Cancer Multi-Specialty Clinics Press Ganey
South Shore Hospital’s Breast Care Center and Multi-Specialty Clinic have each earned the Press Ganey Guardian of Excellence Award in the category of Medical Practice Service Line. The Guardian of Excellence Award recognizes top-performing health care organizations that have consistently achieved the 95th percentile or above for performance in Patient Experience.
American Nurses Credentialing Center
South Shore Hospital has joined a prestigious list of health care organizations that have been recognized as part of the American Nurses Credentialing Center’s (ANCC) Magnet Recognition Program®. ANCC’s Magnet Recognition Program recognizes health care organizations that demonstrate excellence in nursing services. Magnet® recognition is the highest national credential for nursing excellence, serving as the gold standard for nursing practice. Continued excellence in nursing has led to our second four-year Magnet designation.
Harvard Pilgrim Health Care
South Shore Hospital has been named to the 2015 Harvard Pilgrim’s Hospital Honor Roll. Harvard Pilgrim's Hospital Honor Roll recognizes those adult, acute care hospitals whose performance was among the top 25% of those measured nationally on a set of composite quality and patient experience measures, as reported by Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) on Hospital Compare, and Leapfrog patient safety measures.
The Leapfrog Group
South Shore Hospital earned an “A” rating from The Leapfrog Group, a designation that ranks our Hospital among the safest in the US. The Leapfrog Group — a nonprofit founded by employers and health care providers — enlists a panel of patient safety experts to analyze data of recorded incidents of patient harm, as well as surveys of patient experiences, and assign US facilities grades based on their performance.
